Will The Real Alex Jeffreys Please Stand Up

Of course the title of this post is a pun on a very, very old TV show, but it came to mind because of the two conference calls I’ve been on with Alex the past two days.  His students had a call Monday night where we discussed positioning yourself in your niche market, building your list and then developing a relationship with them.  This is a key aspect that some rush past.  Nurturing your list will bring benefits in the long run.  So as you build your list, don’t immediately try to sell them something.  Take some time and give them some free things first … things that bring value.  Send them emails that include some aspect of your personal life, like what you’re doing that day after you jot off some emails and include a link to something that will be of value to them.  In other words, make it relational.

Next, we started discussing emails from an autoresponder standpoint.  Remember, I had recommended Aweber previously as a great autoresponder service for around $20/month.  Aweber has many excellent tutorials on their site to tell you exactly how to get the most benefits from their service.  Some things you’ll want to consider first is your purpose for sending the emails.  Are you providing information, selling your own product, selling affiliate products, trying to start a membership sight, etc.  Keep your purpose in mind as you set up your autoresponder series of emails.  This will most likely impact the content of your emails as well as the interval of time between them.

For example, if you’re selling your own product you may want to send your first email as soon as your customer downloads your product thanking them and possibly giving them a related product for free.  Then you may want to send another in a couple of days asking what they thought about the product and invite them to comment about it on your blog.  Now you’re beginning a conversation.  Customer comments can be like gold because they tell you what’s on your customer’s mind and may give you ideas for another product.  Whatever intervals you choose for your autoresponder emails, remember to nuture the relationship.

The second call I was on with Alex was in conjunction with Glenn Dietzel, the Founder of Awakened, LLC, a leading thought company in the Recommendation Age.  It was an interesting pairing for a JV.  His premise is that we’ve passed the information age and moved to the recommendation age.  As he put it, “greater sameness won’t get you better results.” The market will choose based on their perception of you or your company as being the best. Developing strategic thinking skills and a process to differentiate you from your competitors is essential. You need to be able to bypass negative resistance of your target market.  Your use of specific vocabulary, being able to solve a specific problem and being able to re-purpose content quickly are key factors.  He provides coaching and a software product his company developed toward these purposes.

It was a very high intensity call which really does match the enthusiasm level I’ve seen from Alex, so maybe not such odd bed fellows after all.  Plus, I’m a believer in stretching yourself to new areas of learning … which is what this blog is all about.

Debbie,

Great post. I could not make the call on Monday so I am looking forward to listening. The goal is tonight.

The Call with Glenn sounds very interesting, is that going to be in the members area? Hope so.

I am sure you heard who won the contest for #1 google spot. Contrats to Gary, he deserves it for all that he does.

Thanks again for the post.

Thom

BTW. I put my newest video up for the competition last weekend. I know it is late although I wanted to try a different style of video. If you get a chance please check it out and let me know what you think. It is the first time I am on camera, (I am ready for my close up Mr. DeMille).

Thanks again

Debbie,
Great summary of the last two calls. When I got the email about Alex and Glenn’s call, the phrase that stood out for me is “Writing is the doing part of thinking”.

I appreciate Alex’s teaching style; he’s teaching by doing.

How cool that someone visited your site by recommendation; this is confirmation of what Glenn was talking about.
Well done,
Theresa
PS If you like inspirational type things, my post today is about dreams.
