A Guide to SEO
You can split Search Engine optimization into two parts: Internal SEO and External SEO. Each requires different things but at the end of the day, the most important thing you can do (and Ill say this frequently) for SEO is to get links to your website. Adobe Ranks #1 but “click here” isn’t even on the page. That’s because most people link to them with some variation of “if you want an adobe product, click here”.
Search engines like Yahoo, Google and MSN crawl, using a spider, through millions of websites and indexes these sites. Each site is indexed on the relevant keywords. When we type a keyword, the index is accessed and the results are displayed within moments. The basics of SEO involve optimizing your web pages so it is easy for these spiders to crawl your website and index you for the right keywords. The very first thing a website owner must do is onsite SEO.
The latest buzz in SEO is that content is king. More information content on a web page, the better the chances of it being ranked higher on search engines. That’s why one can find website owners looking furiously for articles and web content online. However, remember that content is only half of the equation. Without good links to your website, search engines won’t find you and you won’t rank in them. Concentrate most of your effort on building links and you will find you will rank very high.
The most important thing you can do is get keyworded links to your site. If you really want to rank high in the search engines, links will do it. If you are thinking about what you should do for SEO right now, the answer is build links, and then build some more links. It is the biggest determining factor in how Google ranks your website. If you are not good in other areas of SEO, you can overcome these weaknesses with building links.
